PCMD3140: I2S Interface

Part Number: PCMD3140
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5722L

Hello, a couple of questions regarding the I2S interface on this device.

Does TI recommend any PU/PD on the lines? SDOUT/SDI, BCLK, FSYNC / LRCLK?

Can the PCMD3140 and TAS5722L share the same I2S bus? Same I2C bus?

  • No pullups or Pulldowns are needed on SDOUT,BCLK,LRCLK. If a pin is an output a series resistance of 22 ohms can be put in the line. The resistor must be placed close to the pin.

I am not familiar with the TAS device. However I2C is an open collector protocol and the signal level is determined by Pullup Resistors from SDA and SCL to IOVDD. This can be 1.8V and 3.3v.  Care has to be taken such that Pullups of both devices are tied to either 1.8v or 3.3v.

In addition the device address of the PCMD3140 is 0x9C. This should not conflict with the address of the TAS Device..

  • Understood. That is what we have.

Could you get back to me on whether they can be on the same interface?

  • i am not very familiar with TAS Device. It has an i2c address options  different from PCMD3140 so there should be no conflict if both devices are on same bus.

The TAS seems to support Digital IO of 1.8v so I think the I2C Bus of both devices will have to operate on 1.8v level
