TAS5614: output distortion issue

Part Number: TAS5614

Hi,Team

The customer is currently using Tas5534+Tas5614, there are 2 problems as follows, (AMP power supply voltage: 25V, load 4 ohms)
1: When the input is -24db, there is 2.6% distortion measured at the speaker end, and the output is about 10W. (Distortion occurs when the input is slowly increased from -30db to around -24db, and if it is increased, such as -22db, the distortion is normal; if it is slowly decreased from -20db to -24db, the distortion looks OK), this is what is the problem? software configuration?

2: At the moment when the signal is turned on, there is a pulse, as shown in the figure below, is there a problem with the software configuration?

  • Hi Dillen

For question2, it should be caused by the filter. When there's voltage sudden change, should be normal behavior.

The first question is indeed strange. I think it may caused by the inner control loop of TAS5614 doesn't works well. There's maybe some hysteresis controls to make the results different when you change the gain from different direction. I'm sorry we couldn't provide more detailed explanation about this problem, this device is too old, that any designers participate in this project may left TI long time ago. It seems there's also very limited thing you could try with this device. Maybe try test before the filter, or maybe let only one channel PLAY to see if there's any difference.
