LM4890: Can LM4890 be used as audio PIEZO driver?

Part Number: LM4890
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM48580, LM48560

Can LM4890 be used as audio PIEZO driver?

I assume I'd add a series resistor to the speaker (-) connection.

Murata PKLCS1212E4001-R1 is target piezo device.

Thanks, Patrick

  • Hi Patrick,

Adding a series resistor is a good idea, basically you're looking for ways to avoid instability due to phase shift on the feedback loop. There is a PSpice model available in case you want to simulate a few different cases before testing the actual circuit.
As you know LM4890 is not rated for piezo speakers, so the test and reliability may not follow the device specified performance.

If you're considering other devices to drive piezo speakers, you can check LM48580 or LM48560.
