PCM1753: Inquiry about Audio solution

Part Number: PCM1753
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1780, TLV320DAC3100

Hi, TI support team

I am looking for a solution including an Audio DAC to output an alarm sound to an e-cigarette.

The basic concept is to send the sound source to the DAC through I2S and output the audio by attaching a speaker to the DAC output.

It seems that the PCM1753 and PCM1780 products have analog output pins and can output 4Vp-p and 3.9Vp-p respectively.

Is it possible to compose like the simple block below?

The speaker is intended to be configured with a specification of about 0.5W.

Do I need Audio AMP between DAC and Speaker?

If there is a better, simpler way, please advise.

Also, if there are other suitable parts other than the parts mentioned above, please recommend them.

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hello MJ,

Some DACs such as 175x family are current output DACs and thus you need to convert the output current to voltage first . In general when you use Voltage output DACs the minimum load impedance is in 1k to few kOhm  whereas speaker impedance  is 4ohm  , 8 Ohm ,  16 and etc , so  you need to put an amplifier such as The TPA31xxD2  to drive the speaker.

Devices such as TLV320DAC3100 Low-Power Stereo Audio DAC already have speaker output built in ( as well as line output ), so I would recommend those devices.
