PCM6020-Q1: Input Diagnostic Inquiries - VBAT_IN

Part Number: PCM6020-Q1

Hello Audio Team!

My customer has a few questions related to the VBAT_IN pin used for input diagnostics on this device.

  1. The VBAT_IN max voltage is 18V. Does this mean the VBAT_IN pin cannot be connected directly to battery, assuming battery can exceed 18V during transients such as load dump?
  2. Is there a minimum VBAT_IN voltage in order to perform input diagnostics properly?
  3. What is the current draw on the VBAT_IN pin when the device is off (Analog and Digital supply OFF)

Thanks for the help!

- Andy

  • Hi Andy,

    1. That is correct. The VBAT_IN pin is used solely for diagnostics in this device and does not support load dump. We suggest stepping down the voltage with a converter or using a voltage divider.

    2. No, however, we recommend VBAT to be greater than the programmed MICBIAS voltage. This is to reduce the likelihood of false detection for certain faults. Explained further in PCM6xx0-Q1 Fault Diagnostic Features

    3.  Less than 5 uA.
