TAS5780M: Ping sound when changing volume

Part Number: TAS5780M

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I have a customer that makes speakers/game calls with the below inquiry. Let me know what you think and thanks in advance!

"I am having an issue with the TAS5780M and volume changes. I am changing the volume in 1 dB steps, however, the output is not a smooth change in volume. The effect is a 'ping' sound that happens with each change in volume. Is there someway to make volume changes happen very smoothly?"

Marco

  • Hi Marco,

Can you specify which volume control is being used for this test? Perhaps you can use the Fine Volume Control rather than the DAC Digital Volume Control.

  • Hi Ivan,

    Customer feedback below:

"I am currently using the digital volume. I am ramping the volume up and down over a range of 20 dB. I move in steps of 1 dB. It takes approximately 1 second to ramp up and 1 second to ramp down. What I need to achieve is a smooth change in volume. What would you recommend?"

    Marco

  • You can try using register 0x3F setting the ramp steps to minimum (0.5dB), this is 2dB by default.

  • Hey Ivan,

Reviving this thread since customer is asking a follow-up to this process.

"Can you please have someone look at the following commands I am sending to change the fine volume to -60dB on a TAS5780M. For some reason, nothing happens after I send the commands.
