PCM5102A: Inquiry about output switching design with PCM5102A

Part Number: PCM5102A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5102,

Tool/software:

I want to use I2S to generate audio through PCM5102 and switch 4 channels using CD4052.

I want to select 4 speakers through the control of the MCU and output them to 1 speaker. (Not more than 1 speaker output at the same time.)

Would it be desirable to switch the output through de-mux using one PCM5102A as shown in the figure?

Or should I control the Input I2S signal using de-mux using each of the 4 PCM5102A as in case 2?

Please give me some advice.

Regards,

  • Hello JP,

I have not worked with CD4052 so I am not much familiar with its limitations but I would personally like to mux my signals in digital domain rather than analog domain. On the other hand using CD4052 before, forces you to use 4 DAC so it increases the power and component count. In cases like this it is better to simply use a TDM signal instead of a switcher.

In general , both solution above should be fine.
