CC8520 and PCM1796 DAC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC8530, PCM1796, CC8520, DIR9001, DIT4096, TAS5518, TAS5708, TAS5710, TAS5713, TAS5727

Hi,

I'm looking at designing a 1 master, 4 slave system.  All are operating autonomously.  Master CC8530 sends audio streams to four slaves CC8520.  Slaves 1 and 3 receive "Left" audio.  Slaves 2 and 4 receive "Right" audio.  Each slave has its own DAC PCM1796 to produce an analog output.

I want to use "Remote" method of volume control.  Pushbuttons connected to master would send volume commands to all slaves which each tell the volume to their respective DAC.

How do I configure each CC8520 slave to send I2C volume to each PCM1796 in response to the master volume pushbuttons?  Or is PCM1796 not supportable.

Thanks,

Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

The PPW Configurator has built in support for the following DACs/codecs:

    • Texas Instruments ADC3101 - Stereo analog input audio ADC
    • Texas Instruments AIC3101 - Stereo analog input/output audio codec
    • Texas Instruments AIC3204 - Stereo analog input/output audio codec
    • Texas Instruments AIC3254 - Stereo analog input/output audio codec with miniDSP
    • Texas Instruments AIC34 - 4-channel analog input/output audio codec
    • Texas Instruments DAC32 - Stereo analog output audio DAC
    • Texas Instruments DIR9001 - SPDIF receiver (Note: CC85xx supports LPCM input only)
    • Texas Instruments DIT4096 - SPDIF transmitter (Note: CC85xx supports LPCM output only)
    • DSP - DSP or other audio device with/without I2C configuration
    • Texas Instruments TAS5518 - 8 channel digital audio PWM processor
    • Texas Instruments TAS5708 - 20-W stereo digital amplifier
    • Texas Instruments TAS5710 - 20-W stereo digital amplifier
    • Texas Instruments TAS5713 - 25-W stereo digital amplifier
    • Texas Instruments TAS5727 - 25-W stereo digital amplifier

It is however also possible to create new "audio device definition file" for other I2C or pin configurable DAC/codec, to be able to control other devices as e.g. the PCM1796.

If you want to create your own audio device definition file, you can use the included audio device definition files as a starting point, these files can be found in:
    <some path>\Texas Instruments\PurePath Wireless Configurator\audio_devices

    Best regards,
    Johan
