PurePath Wireless Configurator - support for PCM5242 DAC with volume control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM5242, CC8520

Hi TI Experts,

I just found the new PCM5242 - DirectPath DAC with volume control and mini DSP section. This IC could right now replace currently used AKM codec in our wireless amplifier, bringing some new extra features without any significant additional cost!

I have just one question – would it be possible to add this codec and it’s I2C volume control functionality to PurePath Wireless Configurator? Our amplifier is based on CC8520 + AKM codec and currently has just external volume control controlled from host µC. It would be great, if we could replace current AKM codec with PCM5242 and use native PurePath volume control function - our system would reach a new dimension of functionality. The miniDSP section we could still control from our host µC. I guess this change / additional option in PurePath Wireless Configurator is a piece of cake for someone from TI who developed/develops PurePath Wireless Configurator.

Cheers,
Tomasz

  • Hi Tomasz,

Do not know this DAC, but in general support can be added to the configurator to any I2C and/or HW configured CODEC (with some limitations).

The entire audio device driver is .xml based and in the configurator's help menu it is listed how to implement this including how to set up volume control (see Audio Device Definition Files section). Looking at some of the already supported devices and use those as a starting point might be helpful.

Let us know if you have any quesions

    Regards,

  • Kjetil,

I took a briefly look on the .xml files and the help menu and it doesn’t look easy :) but I will try to modify something and slowly learn how it does work. In a case I’m completely stuck I will come back here with questions.

    Cheers,
    Tomasz
