pcm1794 vcom recommendations?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCM1794

hi,
is it possible to get clarification for optimum setup for vcom caps on the pcm1794 please?

In the datasheet under 'Typical Application' it shows 1 x 47uf cap for vcomL and another 1x47uf for vcomR coupling to vcc1, but in the 'Layout example' it shows vcomL and vcomR tied together and using a single 47uf cap to couple to vcc1.

Could you explain which is the optimal setup please?

Also, can you comment on the best characteristics to choose for capacitors at this position? We note that these vcom cap choice can alter the final tone of the sound, but wonder what type of capacitor to choose to be technically the best? Would you recommend an electrolytic with additional bypass cap for example?

best regards,

James

  • Hi James,

A cap for each reference is the best case scenario, as well as the most reasonable selection for 10 uF would be an electrolytic, and if you want to go for something a little more you can get a low leakage version. You might be able to throw a smaller capacitor next top the pin, but I am not sure if this will have significant effect.
