TAS5717 pop noise in headphone out around -25dB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5717EVM

Dear Team:

Our customer followed our TAS5717EVM circuit and got pop noise  in headphone as power on.

Do yo have any suggestion to reduce the pop noise? (Register mute, headpphone shutdown,..etc)

  • Hi, Thomas,

Can you please share if your customer is using an external signal to drive HP_SD pin?, if so, It is recommended to keep the Headphone amplifier in shutdown until the power supply is stable, as mentioned in  in Pop-Free Power Up section of the datasheet. Also, can you please let us know what is the input of the headphone driver (analog/HP_PWM)?

You may follow the following sequence to avoid pop issue in the headphone output.

    • Keep /HP_SD in low state.
    • Turn ON HPVDD
    • Mute the Driver:
    • If  Bit D3 of  Register 0x05 is 1, the driver volume is controlled by registers 0x08/0x09 (default 0dB).
    • If Bit D3 of  Register 0x05 is 0, the driver volume is controlled by register 0x0C (default 0dB).
    • If HPVDD is stable, set /HP_SD to High
    • Unmute the driver.

No other change is required for register 0x05 if the driver is used with analog input and the /HP_SD pin is controlled externally.
