TAS5707 temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5707

Hello Audio Folks, I have a customer requesting us to do a FA (failure analysis) for a paritcular date code TAS5707 IC. The reason is that the IC temperature is much higher than the other normal IC.

 According to customer, the normal IC temperature is 79.6 deg C. The bad IC temeprature is 92 deg C. The bad IC is 12.4 deg C higher.

I take back the bad IC and put it into our TI EVM. I compare with another TAS5707 EVM. Below is the setup and result

PVDD = 24V

Both two channel load = 16 ohm

input = 1KHz sine wave

output = 10W x 2

Test time is 15 minutes.

Room temperautre is around 26 deg C.

Here is the result.

EVM with our own IC on it :  temperature = 76.6 deg C.

Bad IC from customer : temperature = 86.7 deg C

So, the result is, even in our own EVM, customer bad IC is still 10.1 deg C higher.

My question is whether the difference is normal and still within our tolerance? If it is not normal, I will submit the IC for FA. If it is normal, I will get back to customer.

Regards,

Kes

  • Hi, Kes,

    Altough the nominal operating temperature range of the TAS5707 is from 0C to 125C, the fact that only one IC is getting hotter in the same board is not normal. Do you have any information about this amplifier reporting any issue or an error (other than the temperature difference)?

  • Hi Diego, thanks for reply. It is not just one IC. According to customer, all IC with the same date code got this issue. Certainly, I just only test one IC.

    For the IC I tested, I didn't going through a detail test like THD, SNR and etc. But, in term of normal operation in playing sound output. I don't see any issue.

    If you think this is not due to the IC tolerance, I will send it for FA.
