TAS5717EVM Not Working

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5717EVM, TAS5717

Purchased a TAS5717EVM for $200 from Digikey.

There is no PWM to the speakers. I see digital data on SDIN1 from the MC57xxPSIA to the TAS5717EVM, but the TAS5717 is vegitating and not outputting PWM to the speaker.

Is this EVM kit supposed to work?

Using TAS57XX Dev Environ v3.2 Build 7 with copyright of 2010 on the about dialog even though the release notes are from 20 Feb 2012... duh.

Release notes states that EVM must have HID interface firmware loaded to on-board TAS1020B processor. How am I supposed to magically know how to check this.

Otherwise, advise how I get a refund for this POS.

  • Hi John,

My colleague will take a look at your issue and he will come back with comments as soon as possible.

  • Hi, John,

Sorry to hear you are having difficulties. Can you please describe the steps you are following to make the amplifier work?, if there is no PWM output from the speaker, then the amplifier is still in shutdown mode. Can you please also use the I²C memory tool of the TAS57xx GDE to read the registers from the amplifier and verify the correct communication between the GUI and DUT?. One thing to mention is that this GUI requires special environment variables setting for a correct I²C operation. The steps required to do this are included in SLAA482  app note.

  • Diego.

OK .. I config'd the enviro variable patch and the TAS5717 is now parsing the I2C data. SLAA482 should maybe be merged into SLOU303 or the app install should take care of the esoteric req't to make the EVM turnkey for a new user... or something.

  • Hi, John,

Thanks for the feedback, this was required only for a couple old amplifiers like the TAS5717. We have better tools like PurePath Console 3 for our new parts where the end-system integration and performance is great.
