TAS5782M: TAS5782 TDM and 3 wire I2 question

Part Number: TAS5782M

HI  All,

I have two quesionts,

1. Can TAS5782M supports 3-WIRES I2S with 96K sample rate, we found 30wires works well with 48K sample rate, but there is not output with 96K

2. How can TAS5782M hardware connected with TDM, is it the same as I2S hardware connection and only need to set the R40 configuration ?

3. If the input TDM is 4 channel ,since TAS5782 only support 2.0, is it possible for TAS5782M support this type TDM and how to let it work?

Thanks!

  • Hi Sheldon,

    See my comments below.
    1. Can TAS5782M supports 3-WIRES I2S with 96K sample rate, we found 30wires works well with 48K sample rate, but there is not output with 96K?
Andy: Which process flow are you talking about? We will double check.

    2. How can TAS5782M hardware connected with TDM, is it the same as I2S hardware connection and only need to set the R40 configuration ?
Andy: Yes. Are you talking about 3-wire TDM? If so, let me the inputs clocks (BCLK) and sample rate?

    3. If the input TDM is 4 channel ,since TAS5782 only support 2.0, is it possible for TAS5782M support this type TDM and how to let it work?
Andy: You need two TAS5782M devices (each device runs in stereo mode) if you are running a 4-ch TDM.

  • Hi  Andy,

Thanks for your quickly response my questions.

    1. Can TAS5782M supports 3-WIRES I2S with 96K sample rate, we found 30wires works well with 48K sample rate, but there is not output with 96K?
Andy: Which process flow are you talking about? We will double check.

    <Sheldon>Flow 3.

    2. How can TAS5782M hardware connected with TDM, is it the same as I2S hardware connection and only need to set the R40 configuration ?
Andy: Yes. Are you talking about 3-wire TDM? If so, let me the inputs clocks (BCLK) and sample rate?
<Sheldon>I need to check , is there any limit of 3-wire TDM? If the sample rate is high, do we need to use 4-wire TDM?

    3. If the input TDM is 4 channel ,since TAS5782 only support 2.0, is it possible for TAS5782M support this type TDM and how to let it work?
Andy: You need two TAS5782M devices (each device runs in stereo mode) if you are running a 4-ch TDM.

<Sheldon> If we only have one PCS TAS5782M which this input, only the first two channel will be input and the last two channel will be ignored? And how to separate the TDM to two PCS TAS5782M?

  • Hi Sheldon,

    Here are my comments.
    1. Can TAS5782M supports 3-WIRES I2S with 96K sample rate, we found 30wires works well with 48K sample rate, but there is not output with 96K?
Andy: Which process flow are you talking about? We will double check.
    <Sheldon>Flow 3.
Andy: Could you also tell me the input clock (BCLK)? Thanks.

Andy: In most cases, input clocks can be auto detected and then the internal PLL will be configured automatically if a 4-wire I2S or TDM is used. A 3-wire TDM might require manual configurations of PLL settings. What's why I need you to tell me what the BCLK is in your system.

    3. If the input TDM is 4 channel ,since TAS5782 only support 2.0, is it possible for TAS5782M support this type TDM and how to let it work?
Andy: You need two TAS5782M devices (each device runs in stereo mode) if you are running a 4-ch TDM.

Andy: It is OK to use just one TAS5782M in a 4-ch TDM bus. I will give you more details after you provide BCLK (I assume you still want to use a 3-wire TDM here).

    Andy

  • HI  Andy,

    The BCLK is about 6MHz.

  • Hi Sheldon,

    6.144MHz (48kHz*32*4)?

    Andy
  • Hi  Andy,

We don't use TDM finally, now the only questions is 3-wire I2S with 96K sample rate support, the BCLK=96KHz*32*2.

  • Hi Sheldon,

Ok. I will give you answers shortly.

    Andy
  • Hi Sheldon,

I use the TAS5782 to try the 3 wire I2S with 96K sample rate. I find it works and basic setup is for your reference:

    1. TAS5782MEVM, PPC3 Mother boards;

    2. PPC3 GUI set: Standard 2.0 96K, choose I2S from PSIA (choose PSIA to 96KHz)

    3. Exteranl I2S signal is from AP with 3 wire: no master clock.

    4. I get the resutls as follows for your reference:

Any concerns are welcome with more detailded information.

    Thanks & regards,

    Alix Wan.

  • Hi Andy,
Thanks for your test we will follow your process and try it again.
  • Hi Sheldon,

The testing results both works for flow3 and flow1.

Use the flow 3, set sampling rate to 96KHz (input LRCL=96KHz) to test again.

If there is something wrong, please let us know.

    Thanks & best regards,

    Alix Wan.
