TAS5558: click-less update for biquads

Part Number: TAS5558
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hello Ti, is there any way to update biquads in a click-less manner yet? Your main competitor offers some shadow regs for that purpose aka safeload(in fact it is simply Fs synced buffer), your pdf suggest me to mute 5558 for 200mS or so during biquads updating. I've almost finished my product(extremely compact 100Wx2ch 127x100x30mm PCBA, LLC SMPS 110/230VAC, IOS/Adroid DSP control), and now playing around the app control(CC2540). It is not a first my design but others used your competitor's DSPs, and I was able to control all parameters online and click-less. Is there any way to load biquad's coefficients into your 5558 without clicks or muting?

  • Ivan,

Have you tried using the bank switching options? There will be a mute while the bank switch is occuring but at least you could load both sets of biquads and switch between them easily.

    Regards,

    -Adam
  • Adam,

So, as I understand, your reply to my question is no? Well..
PS: I did not try that because we have really wonderful Xover  GUI and I even had the plan dynamically allocate 7 biquads between parametricEQ/LPF/HPF, and I can not imagine any kind of muting instead of normal online operation. Seems I have to add $2 DSP to my BOM, hell, only for clickless work, pity.. Adam, please tell your upper guys about Fs synced buffer, and about routing options for all 56 biquads to use in 2ch mode(now only 7/ch and it is not funny, especially when the IC eating 230mA in 2018).

  • Ivan,

This part was designed many years ago.

I was not saying No to your question. Using the bank switch operation, you should be able to quickly and quietly switch coefficients.

    Regards,

    -Adam
