PCM2912A: Ticking / clicking sound constantly on mic and speaker

Part Number: PCM2912A

Good day,
We're developing an audio system for a custom project, and have 1.6 hz ticking on mic input, with otherwise clear input sound, and 16hz clicking on output, with otherwise clear output sound. No connection issues with USB whatsoever, and we have full chip functionality in the OS.
Due to availability we opted for a  CSTCR6M00G53Z oscillator, which appears to meet the full specification of the recommended set.   Currently we are looking for suggestions on the cause of the interference, or any similar cases.
Appreciate all help, and suggestions. Thanks in advance, Jaron.

  • Here is a sample clip, for analysis . the slow pulse is the microphone induced sound, and the fast (faint) pulsing is the speaker output. As you can hear, the birds chirping etc is recorded clearly. This pulsing is evident on the sister prototype board as well, indicating a component mismatch / design error, i just can't seem to put my finger on what the cause might be.

  • Hi, Jaron,

I looked at the schematic and the PCM2912A  portion seems fine. I have not seen a similar situation where this type of noise is present in a PCM2912A application. Have you tried to isolate the PCM2912A from the rest of the circuit and see if the issue is still the same?.
