TPA2001D1: how to calculate the output power?

I’ve looked over the datasheet and I don’t see any mention of how to calculate the output power, and the associated output peak current of the amplifier with regards to a varying load (8 Ohms, 4 Ohms etc).

On page 4 of the datasheet there is a table that lists max output power is 400mW with a 3.3V supply and 8 Ohm load.

Is there a technical document that goes through how to calculate these values?

If not, can you please send us the equations for these calculations?

Hi Josh,

This is a Class-D amplifier, so its output power is calculated as BTL connection, like below formula:

However this requires to know Rds and Rdc which are MOSFET on-resistance and DC resistance of the coil, respectively. Unfortunately TPA2001D1 does not specify Rds.
Perhaps the best approach is to measure the output power for the specific customer system requirements.
In addition, is there a specific reason to select TPA2001D1? There are newer and better supported devices like TPA2011D1, this device has EVM available so testing it is easier.

Thanks, are there any equivalent Class D speakers that are p2p with TPA2001D1 and have a evm?

Josh,

Unfortunately TPA2001D1 has some pins that are no longer used in new devices, like COSC and ROSC. Most of our newer devices have a reduced pinout and package.
