Hello,

I am tasked with designing a Universal Front End preamplifier audio product and we have the PCM1863 and DIR9001PWR IC.

We have a prototype setup but need the Software to Control and Configure the PCM1863: Software-Controlled Audio ADC for production.

Please provide the software so we can Control and Configure the PCM1863, thank you.

    Hi Neil,

    click on the "request" button on this page.  once you've requested access,  the request goes to export control for approval,  this can take a day or two.

    Hi Steve,

    We did this last year for another project with the PCM5142 IC and was shutdown, request denied! So we went with AKM device. This was embarrassing for us as a Texas design shop!

    Now we will give it another shot, thank you. I will make the request again.

    Neil,

    I've just sent you a PM with my email address.  Please send the error to me and lets figure out what is keeping you from receiving approval.

    We want your business.  Let's figure out what is going on and why you didn't receive approval for the software.  I hate to hear that something like this would keep you from using our product.

    FYI,  There is a new family of ADCs being released that meet or exceed the performance of the PCM186x family,  the power consumption is considerably lower,  package size smaller, and the price should be very competitive.

    Here is a link to the TLV320ADC3140 preview.  This is the first device that will release, you will see some higher performance previews from the same family of devices in the coming weeks.

    Thank you for the heads-up!

    We we are looking at the PCM9211 for analog and digital interfaces with stereo ADC and signal routing; besides the PCM186x family.
    Thinking we need a analog and digital interfacing Hub and routing of signals.

    This is a PRE-AM frontend device board project.

    We have a blank slate, so all ears on new technology and ideas.

    The PCM9211 is actually a pretty good choice if you need the ADC, DIX, and Signal routing. The performance of the ADC is good, the only limitation is that its always 24bit, and there isn't support for TDM on the digital audio bus, but those may not be an issue for you. That EVM also wouldn't require PUREPATHCONSOLE.

    The audio software system is down for me right now, I was trying to see why you were rejected last time, but with the system down I don't have any insight yet.

    Hi Steve,

     We are configuring the PCM1863 to exercise the "Integrated High-Performance Audio PLL" feature?  What is the default ADC sample resolution - 192KHZ?

    Also what HW Control use to exercise the SW-Controlled Gain?

    How can we setup for I2S streaming this IC without SW Control?

    We are using the DIR9001 as the front end for 96KHZ and the AK4113 DIR for 192KHZ.

    FLOW:

    AK4113 > PCM1863 > PCM5102

    Presently we are trying to test device as default.

    Neil,

    Is there something specific about the high performance audio PLL on the PCM1863 that you are into? Most of our audio Codecs and ADCs have an integrated high performance Audio PLL.

    The PCM186x series has a default bit resolution of 24-Bit, but can do 16bit as well.
    the sampling rate doesn't really have a default setting, there is an clock auto detect, the device defaults to slave mode, the supported auto detect rates are in the datasheet.

    There is no hardware control for the PCM1863, only the PCM1860 and PCM1861 support hardware control.

    Regarding the PUREPATHCONSOLE download issue, I looked into the system and it shows that you requested access twice last year, the reason for the rejection was because you don't have a verifiable email address, and your company doesn't seem to have any public web presence etc... Please reapply with your business address.

    Note I am trying to design the IC for 192KHZ with and without the crystal. Is there a reference design document that illustrate this configuration?

    However our client requirement is 192KHZ rate and low parts count. Is there a reference design document that illustrate this configuration?

    TI's MCUs do not work with Purepath Console.

    The EVMs for the Audio devices have a TAS1020B processor on them, many of the EVMs are compatible with one another in terms of being recognized by the control software, but some EVMs have the TAS1020 on the EVM itself, where as some EVMs have a motherboard/Daughter card setup with the usb processor on the motherboard.

    Our issue and concern is how to configure and burn-in ICs i.e. PCM1863?

    So after initial configuration and testing of ICs we need to go to production!

    Does the PCM1863EVM and USB-I2X using PurePath Console mechanism enable us to configure and burn-in ICs i.e. PCM1863 for example.

    Need to know how the EVM allow us to burn-in the i.e. configure script to the PCM1863. Then we deploy this IS to production.

    Put another way, how do we get the register addresses configuration over to the PCM1863 IC chip i.e. for IRAD to take to production?

    Neil,

    To be clear, the PCM1863 cannot be "burned in". the configuration is volatile. The device requires configuration every time it is powered up. This is likely the case with all of the register configurable devices.

    So there needs to be some kind of processor performing this function. PPC2 has a "virtual coeffs" tab has a "export as .h" button which allows you to export your PPC2 configuration to a header file. The processor can then use the .h file to write the registers.

    If you want a device that does not require configuration at startup, The PCM1861 is a hardware controlled device that does not require configuration at startup.

    What is the default wiring to the PCM5102A? 

    Systems Interaction Diagram:-

     PC/CELL PHONE SOURCE > PCM1863 > PCM5102A

     

    Wired as datasheet Figure 66, however PIN 14 high 3.3V.

    Hello Steve,

    I am looking for a wiring validation of the circuit wiring and configuration.

    Presently we have:

    CIRCUIT:                 PCM1863 >I2S> PCM5102A

    The PCM1863 DEFAULT circuit is wired as in datasheet as Slave PLL MODE. However not working!

    Please see datasheet Figure 66. The only difference is PIN 14 wired HIGH 3.3V.

    What is the setup for PCM5102A i.e. hook-up/wiring?

    We need to validate this setup and test as the DEFAULT. Note no I2C configuration has been done. Just need to baseline the PCM1863 DEFAULT circuit as is from TI OEM.

    So you have the PCM5102A set up as the I2S master?   what are the MCLK, BCLK and WCLK frequencies from the PCM5102A?

    Neil, 

    You also said that the PCM1863 was in slave mode, which means it isn't providing any clocks.  So where are the clocks coming form?

    I need clear and precise information or I can't help you.

    My technician confirmed wiring:- 

    MASTER: PCM1863 > I2S > SLAVE: PCM5102A

    However, the team confirm that it works with the PCM2706 > I2S > PCM5102A configuration.

    Not sure why the PCM1863 not working, but will investigate furthermore.
