DRV134: Power Supply Bypass Capacitor Values

Part Number: DRV134

Hello,

I am using a DRV134 in a circuit as a replacement for a SSM2142. The board is already built using 0.1uF capacitors to bypass the power supply. The DRV134 datasheet calls for 1uF capacitors.

Will the 0.1uF capacitors be a be acceptable or should I replace them with 1uF caps?

Thanks

  • Hi George,

The DRV134 and SSM2142 are fairly comparable, except DRV134 has have slightly wider output swing than SSM2142. It is probably ok, but it will be good to verify if the ripple voltage are not varied significantly at V+ and V-, after the replacement.

If you do not want to check it, I  would suggest to piggy back 1uF on top of 0.1uF at the each rail. (It is easy to do). Then, you do not need to worry about it. The larger capacitor will help to source more current when the output is required, if rail voltages are changed more than expected.

    Best,

    Raymond
