TPA6130A2EVM: GUI does not work even after driver installed

Part Number: TPA6130A2EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPA6130A2

Hi,

I am trying to use the TPA6130A2EVM and after some difficulty was able to install the driver on my Windows 10 machine (see the USB enumeration on my Device Manager below).  But the TPA613x GUI still says the correct driver is not installed.  I was not able to program successfully the USB-miniEVM0304_441KHZ.bin file, as step 17 of the user guide shows.

I also have the following questions:

1) The TPA6130A2 has a high power supply ripple rejection ratio (-76 to -97 dB as datasheet shows).  Is an LDO supply required for low noise operation, or can a switching regulator be used?

2) The speakder signals we are using are 2 MHz PDM differential signal.  Is a low pass filter required before inputting this signal to the TPA6130A2 circuit?

3) Are the input AC coupling capacitors necessary if the input signal is a perfectly balanced differential signal?

Thanks,

Alula Hailu

  • Hi, Alula,

Welcome to E2E and thank you for your interest in our products!

Regarding the Windows 10 driver issues, could you take a look at these e2e threads and try the suggestions that we provided, please?

Regarding your questions above, please take a look at my answers and let me know if you have additional questions.

    1) The TPA6130A2 has a high power supply ripple rejection ratio (-76 to -97 dB as datasheet shows).  Is an LDO supply required for low noise operation, or can a switching regulator be used?

An LDO supply is always recommended over the switching regulator since it would have a low ripple that could be added at the output. However, the switching regulator can be also used. The recommendations that we provide when a switching regulator is used is to reduce the ripple the most possible. Any noise or variations on the power supply directly affects the output performance. So, if possible, add more capacitance (usually another 1uF and 0.1uF capacitor should be enough) and a ferrite bead in series to the supply could be also useful.

    2) The speaker signals we are using are 2 MHz PDM differential signal.  Is a low pass filter required before inputting this signal to the TPA6130A2 circuit?

Yes, it is recommended to filter the high-frequency content even if they are not in the audible band. This high frequency content would be increased and its harmonics too. So, is possible, add a low-pass filter to take the audible portion only.

    3) Are the input AC coupling capacitors necessary if the input signal is a perfectly balanced differential signal?

Yes, they are required even if you are using a balanced differential signal. These capacitors work with the internal bias of the device and they are required for a proper device operation. Omitting these capacitors may result in low performance or a wrong behavior.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you have additional questions or comments.

    Best regards,
    Luis Fernando Rodríguez S.

  • Do you have any suggestions for the low pass filter (small size)?
