TAS2563: Similar device with multichannel PDM inputs supported

Part Number: TAS2563

Hi,

I'm looking for a smart audio amp which support multi channel PDM & came across TAS2563 for mono audio application. May i know if there's other devices which supports more number of PDM input channels for both mono & audio application? I can't seem to locate this using ti.com

Regards,

Leo

  • Hello Leo,

Welcome to E2E. Thank you for your interested in Smart Amps.

From what I have seen, the PDM feature integrated in our Smart Amp is generally used for late-latency playback and MIC input for echo referencing. Regarding  devices with multi-channel PDM, PCMD3180might be something you will be interested in. However, that device does not have speaker driver. It may require a system design for what you are aiming for. You can try the Data Converter team to see if they have a better solution.

Thank you. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Hi Jin,

Thanks for the response & suggestion. Since this is an audio ADC, for speaker amplifier will it be better if I opt for digital/smart amp instead of conventional analog audio amps? My target end application is microphone array beam forming application for portable audio assistance.

    Leo

  • Hello Leo,

Depending on your system requirements, it is up to you to decide Smart Amp or Conventional Analog amp. Generally for portable electronics, Smart Amps do offer more features for developers in terms of safety, better audio output, and protection mechanism. Some of the common used Smart Amp features are:

    • Brown-Out Protection and Limiter; It can adjust output power according to power supply fluctuation
    • Speaker protection; From generated speaker model, the device can play louder audio content than conventional amp without damaging the speaker
    • Integrated DSP for audio processing such as multiband equalizer, Smart EQ, and DRC for better listening experience
    • IV Sense to constantly monitor the power being delivered
    • adjustable multilevel Internal boost feature for better power efficiency and higher power output
    • Thermal Foldback mechanism to resolve speaker heating issue after prolonged period of playing
    • and many more features such as Noise Gate/Auto-Mute, digital gain and etc.

All of the TAS2563 features can be found on the datasheet and on the product page. Let me know if you have any questions about these.

Regarding your target end application, I believe it is difficult to find a Smart Amp devices with a microphone array of your need, so perhaps they should be implemented separately, the ADC/MIC array and the amplifier. There are variety of reference design available on ti.com. For example: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01454#2 may help you with the microphone array part.

    Thank you for contacting E2E
