TAS6424M-Q1: Fault detection

Part Number: TAS6424M-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS6424

Hi team,

I have a question about the fault detection feature of TAS6424 during normal operation(playing music) or MUTE.

Could you advise if TAS6424 can detect below fault during normal operation or MUTE or cannot detect?

1. Output short to GND

2. OUT short to VBAT

3. OUT pin OPEN

4. OUT+ short to OUT-

5. DC offset error

regards,

  • Hi,

During PLAY and MUTE, all the fault detections in Table 6 and 7 on datasheet are active.

1Output short to GND and 2OUT short to VBAT will result in a overcurrent fault.

3OUT pin open. Please note that OUT pin open can only be detected by the load diagnostics.

4OUT+ short to OUT- will not be protected in MUTE status. This is because in mute status, the speaker terminal + and - have the same voltage(50% PVDD) by nature. No fault will be triggered in this case.

5DC offset error. Output DC fault will be monitored in both MUTE and PLAY status.

Any question, please let me know. Thanks!

    Regards,

    Sam

  • Hi Sam,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

For #4, the OUT+ short to OUT- will be detected during Play mode as "overcurrent fault"?

    regards,

  • Hi,

The "over current fault" detects any over current event on the half-bridge. In Mute status, there is no differential output in BTL, so there is no over current event. When you try to play something, you will get the differential output, if OUT+ is shorted to OUT-, then there will be an over current event and captured by the device.

    Regards,

    Sam
