OPA1604: Audio Quality at low voltage

Part Number: OPA1604
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA1644

The OPA1604 and OPA1644 can run on as little as +-2.2V.  When used for audio and running off say +- 4V would you expect any degradation in audio performance as compared to running on +-12V assuming no clipping.  Asking for best opinion I know it cannot be guaranteed unless tested in the datasheet.

  • Hi Jelly,

Many AC-specs of OPA1604 and OPA1644 are specified in 4.5 - 36V (+/-2.25 - +/-18V) supply condition, but distortion spec such as THD+N and IMD are specified in 3Vrms=8.48Vpp output case.

Therefore, we have to consider the risk of some degradation for distortion in +/-4V or less supply condition.

Furthermore, please confirm the input common mode voltage(Vicm) for your application.
Especially, in the case of OPA1644, its Vicm is limited in -4.1V - 0.5V for +/-4V supply, it sometimes cause the difficulty to use OPA1644 in non-inverting configuration.
If Vicm range was violated, we must consider the more degradation for its distortion.

    Thank you and Best regards,
    Iwata Etsuji
