PCM2903C: PCM2903C S/PDIF input and output for coax

Part Number: PCM2903C
  1. Hi,

is there the possibility to attach a coax cable to the S/PDIF input and output of PCM2903C?

Seems like it is only designed for optical transmitter/receiver.

Is there maybe an example schematic or even ref design?

Kind regards,

Marion

  • Hello Marion,

You're correct and the DIN S/PDIF input on the PCM2903C is intended for TOSLINK style, single-ended, digital output optical connectors.  If you're intending to connect to a low-level differential COAX style S/PDIF input you could look at the circuit present on the DIR9001EVM: https://www.ti.com/tool/DEM-DIR9001EVM

There's a simple logic gate circuit that converts the low level COAX signal into the appropriate single-ended digital signal for these types of inputs.
