TAS5806MEVM: Output Filter Capacitor and Resistor

Part Number: TAS5806MEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5806M,

C13, C19, C26, C27, C36, C37, C44, C45 and R13 - R20 are crossed out with red color. Does that mean I do not need to use them for my own layout or is it just a special confuguration for the EVM? Because in the Datasheet these components are not crossed out.
So do I need to use them for my personal layout or not?

  • And also: Do I need 1x 22uF per PVDD channel or do I need 2x 22uF per PVDD channel? (This also differs in the Datasheet of TAS5806M and TAS5806MEVM)

  • Hello Severin,

C13,R13,C19,R19,C26,R15,C26,R16,C36,R17,C37,R18,C44,R19,C45,R20 are for an optional output zobel network that can offer some improvement in EMI performance.

We would recommend at least 1 22uF per PVDD channel, but it depends how clean your power supply is as it helps with low frequency noise decoupling.

    Best regards,

    Luis

  • Hello Luis,

thank you! What would be difference when using a 2200pF(like in the datasheet of TAS5806M page 73) instead of a 1000pF (like in the datasheet of TAS5806MEVM page 6) capacitor in the zobel network. It's the first time i hear the term "zobel network". It seems to be used to flatten the Impendance response of a speaker. but for a convetional 0.07mH and 3.5Ohm speaker this would be 3.6uF and 4.3Ohms. So the purpose must be something different.

Also in the datasheet of the TAS5806M on page 73 in the "Typical Application" there is a 2200nF capacitor used behind the ferrite bead, but in the Datasheet of the TAS5806MEVM there is a 1000pF capacitor used. How do I need to interpret this in order to design my schematic successful, or could it be a mistake and it shold say 2200pF instead of 2200nF?

    Best regards,

    Severin

  • Hello Severin,

There are capacitor value and idle current trade-offs. Larger capacitors mean larger idle current. Increase the capacitor value from 1nF to 2.2nF can offer some improvement for the frequency band 5MHz~100MHz. The resonant frequency of the Ferrite Bead/cap filter should be less than 10MHz for whatever ferrite filter you use.

Yes, you are correct that should be 2200pF capacitor.

    Best regards,

    Luis.
