TMDSLCDK6748: How to get started with audio development on TMS320C6748 DSP development kit (LCDK)?

I am new to using DSP boards and I'm completely lost on how to get started with a basic "hello world" example on this DSP board (C6748 LCDK - https://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSLCDK6748) that I intend to use for an audio project. A simple hello world example for me would be something like playing a sine tone siganl.

However, I am unable to figure out what I really need to setup in order to program and debug on the DSP. I thought it would be as straight forward as installing CCS with the libraries relevant to the C6748 LCDK. But after going through the Processor SDK RTOS documentation, I understand that I would need an external emulator with this board?? (https://software-dl.ti.com/processor-sdk-rtos/esd/docs/latest/rtos/index_how_to_guides.html#id75). Is there a step-by-step guide for the C6748 SDK? In the processor RTOS documentation, there is ambiguity between the OMAPL138 and 6748 LCDK and that confuses me as to what exactly to follow for the 6748 LCDK.

Ishani,

The OMAPL138 device is the superset ARM+DSP device for C6748 so for development with SDK, all DSP examples for OMAPL138 will run on C6748. If you are following the SDK documentation to build various components, please add CORE=dsp to the command line so you limit the build to only C674x core on the device.

similarly, PDK uses a script called pdkProjectCreate to read your environment and create CCS Projects for the various drivers supported in the SDK. The MCASP peripheral on C6748 is the audio/I2S peripheral. A good starting point for you would be to setup the MCASP Loopback example which takes in audio input from line in on the LCDK and plays the audio back through the line out port. The example shows how the AIC3106 codec needs to be setup to digitize the audio and provide it as input to the MCASP pins for the DSP to receive for processing.

After you have setup and confirmed the audio loopback, you can look to replace the loopback code with your custom audio processing algo and modify the example as required. Hope this helps.

yes, you need a JTAG external emulator for this board. You can use either XDS200 or XDS100 emulators but ensure that you have the 14 pin header or adapter. Most XDS100 kits will provide the adapter.
