  • Hello,

My coworker will get back to you in a few hours.

  • Hello Hironori-san,

I'm struggling to understand what is the actual question..? Or what is unlocked...?

Is the questions is an XO required for this operation? Then the answer is yes. The APLL requires an XO to be connected and the configuration to be generated using correct XO frequency value, otherwise device will not function.

With regards to TCXO, it is only required in 3 loop mode. Based off of your image, I can see for step 5 only 2 loop mode operation was selected, so TCXO is irrelevant here.

Was a runscript done? When I use the same inputs you have provided in the image, I can slightly different DPLL lbw (DPLL2 lbw 9.994 vs yours that is 10.03 - a bit curious since these are very exact numbers unlikely DPLL1 and DPLL2 match exactly, which your image shows it does), which suggests either different starting point or yours hasn't updated to your new settings, meaning a runscript wasn't run.

Post runscript, a simple software reset is recommended. This is R12, although I don't see any issues with doing a PLL soft reset either.

If the above information is not helpful, please let me know exactly what is failing or what the issue is. A status readback is always recommended in order to debug the issue with device.

    Thanks and regards,

    Amin

  • Here is Customer's question

OUT4/5/6/7 is outputting 148.5/1.001MHz but not locked onto IN0.
This means when the edge of IN0 is triggered on the oscilloscope, OUT4/5/6/7 is moving out of the way.
Customer would like to lock OUT4/5/6/7 to IN0.

    Condition:
    IN0
    74.25/1.001MHz
    OUT4/5/6/7
    148.5/1.001MHzIN0:2x - Lock with IN0

  • Hello,

What is the status readback show? Is the DPLL locked or not?

If the DPLL is locked, the output should not be moving vs the reference as there's still an integer relationship between the 2. The fact that it's moving would indicate to me some frequency error (+/- ppm) meaning DPLL isn't locked.

Another test to try, if the reference is shifted by x ppm, does the output shift by x ppm as well?

    Regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,
I don't understand the basic setting method.
Please attach TICS Pro prj under the following conditions.

    OUT4 / 5/6/7 is outputting 148.5 / 1.001MHz but not locked onto IN0.
This means when the edge of IN0 is triggered on the oscilloscope, OUT4 / 5/6/7 is moving out of the way.
Customer would like to lock OUT 4/5/6/7 to IN 0.

    Condition:
    IN0: 74.25 / 1.001MHz
    OUT4 / 5/6/7: 148.5 / 1.001MHz (IN0: 2x --Lock with IN0)

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hello Kazuhiro-san,

I can perform a runscript per your inputs offline as well with no device connected to generate a configuration, but it wouldn't be any different from the configuration you have. I assume after the entries on the main: start page a runscript was done? Followed by a reset, and currently device is in this condition, correct?

In order to understand what's going on I need status readback. There's a tab on ticspro called status, there you can readback status registers. It'll tell us whether device is in a locked condition or not. Note APLL lock would give you frequencies close enough to 148.5/1.001 that from an oscilloscope standpoint you wouldn't see anything different, but if expecting to see both reference input and output in a deterministic phase condition (i.e. one is not moving vs the other on an oscilloscope), they would need to have an integer multiple relationship. Without locking DPLL you're not going to get this. Hence why I want to know status readback and understand whether reference is validated, DPLL is selecting correct reference, DPLL is locking to reference, etc.

    Thanks and regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,

I can't connect TICS Pro to the board.

  • Hello Kazuhiro-san,

Why are so many registers skipped?

The register information of interest should be in the regmap but you can also find it by hovering over the field in TICSpro and seeing the register info in the context note section.

R14 and R15 are DPLL status registers. Seems like both 0x000e and 0x000f are reading back 0x00 - meaning none of the DPLL bits are flagged.

R742[4:7] shows REF valid state. 0x02e6 readback shows 0x40 which means only IN2 is valid. This doesn't make sense as it is not even a "used" option on your front page - it's left as "unused". Was this a readback?

R767 [0:5] and R771 [0:5] will tell us about DPLL reference select, which reference the DPLL has selected. 0x02FF is reading 0x01 which corresponds to REF0 correctly. 0x0303 is missing.

Since the reference valid is not being shown correctly I'm still uncertain to exactly say what state is the device in.

Was a runscript main start page when the entries were put in each section.

    Regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,

When I click "Read Status Regs" tab , I readback the register of the yellow circle.

    Readback again
    0x000e 0x00
    0x000f 0x00
    0x02e6 0x10
    0x0303 0x01

Please teach me the address that  to can determine what state is the device in.

    Excuse me
Would you please instruct me on specific operations?

    Regards,

  • Amin,  I need your help. Let's me comment out in addition to customer's direct message.

Would you please kindly advice us more detail description with detail address ?
According to your advice , "R14 and R15 are DPLL status registers. Seems like both 0x000e and 0x000f are reading back 0x00 - meaning none of the DPLL bits are flagged."  Customer should write which address ?

My customer's concerning points are following.

o Do you find any missing setting or wrong setting in Register on the TCSPro?
o Customer's EVM readback seems to be under RESET condition. Could you please verify your side too?

It is very critical time to consider this function is available or not.  If my explanation is not enough, let's have a short call with us?

  • Hello,

So this reset condition is completely new - where is that coming from? Or what is telling you guys the EVM is in reset condition? The power consumption should be close to ~800 mA for most blocks active type of configuration. If device is in reset it will read something significantly lower, somewhere between ~50 - 150 mA.

Second thing, status registers are read registers. They're are meant to be read and it will let you know what condition the device is in and what needs to debug. Programming status registers is pointless. Btw, all this should be in the EVM user's guide.

Rather than sharing raw register readback, why not look at the status tab? That will convert the register data to meaningful input rather than trying to convert hex data and looking at the bit:

Note below that will be DPLL REFSEL STAT readback as well - this will tell us what reference the DPLL has selected.

The data that was shared, implied the REF2 is valid while the main start page shows IN2 as unused - so there's something wrong here. This cannot happen. Was a runscript performed after the inputs were put in to the main start tab:

No runscript - no configuration has actually been generated.

    Thanks and regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,

I can connect TICS Pro to the board.
I was able to confirm the same operation with EVM.

  • Hi Kasuhiro-san,

Thanks for the video and the full register dump.

This register dump does make more sense:

    • R742 shows REF0 Valid
    • R767/771 Show DPLL1 and DPLL2 both select REF0
    • R14/R15 show DPLL lock

So I'm inclined to say LMK05028 is behaving as expected.

With regard to the frequencies moving vs each other - oscilloscopes don't give the most accurate measurement from my lab testing. Even when there source is synced. Do you have access to a frequency counter? Can you measure with a frequency counter, perhaps a ratio of the 2 frequencies connected at different channels? You should see a perfect 2.0 or 0.5 (depending on which way the fraction is setup)

Also, if can shift the reference frequency, by very small amount like few Hz, does the output follow?

Again, I think LMK05028 is behaving as it should be.

I will double check internally to see if anyone else has other idea in terms of why the output frequency is moving with reference to the input, my guess at is an oscilloscope is not accurate enough in terms of frequency to show them perfectly in phase, it would require a phase noise analyzer or a frequency counter with synced source - but perhaps they can make other recommendations.

    Thanks and regards,

    Amin

  • btw, the .tcs file doesn't match the register dump.

For example, .tcs clearly shows R14/R15 reading 0xD0... therefore not in lock condition. Where as register dump shows 0x00 and lock condition.

I'm assuming file was saved, before a readback was performed?

  • Hello Amin-san,

I don't want to output CLK with a fixed frequency, but I want to output CLK that follows IN0.
    Frequency is not important.

    IN0 is VIDEO CLK.
The specifications of VIDEO CLK are about 74.17582418MHz ± 30ppm.
This CLK may vary depending on the place of use.
With the same design, I simply want to output a CLK that doubles IN0.

    Example 1 Center
      IN0: 74.17582418MHz OUT4: 148.3516484MHz
    Example 2
      IN0: 74.17800000MHz OUT4: 148.3560000MHz
    Example 3
      IN0: 74.17400000MHz OUT4: 148.3480000MHz

LMK05208 can output at a fixed frequency.
    Isn't LMK05208 that follows an IN0(external input)?

    Can LMK05208 be used?

    Thanks and regards,

    Kazuhiro Nishimura (Panasonic)

  • When using an oscilloscope
    I expect.
Trigger OUt4 is stopped at IN0 without flowing, or
At OUT4, trigger IN0 does not flow and is stopped.

With the current settings, the trigger IN0 is flowing at OUT4 without stopping.
    Can you watch VIDEO(71_148M.mp4)?

    .

  • Hi Kazuhiro-san,

I understand your issue. I did watch the video.

You expect both signals to be stable, the phase not moving. The phase difference isn't important, but no movement is important.

The moving suggests the frequency is changing. I *think* (haven't verified this theory) this is an artifact of the oscilloscope since the DPLL is locked, and I don't believe the output frequency is actually moving. That's why I suggested it perhaps a frequency counter or a PNA - phase noise analyzer.

My experience with oscilloscope, as long as there's integer relationship between the 2 frequencies, the oscilloscope will remain stable. For example 156.25 MHz and 312.5 MHz. You also have have integer relationship here as your frequencies are 2x of the other.

So if output is not moving, you should see that on oscilloscope - but you are not. Since DPLL shows locked, and I can't pinpoint any other issues with LMK05028, I'm thinking it might be the oscilloscope.

And yes, LMK05028 frequency should be able to follow for 30 ppm range of the reference as long as the reference ppm validation is set to something higher than that.

I will discuss internally to see if there's something I'm missing, but if DPLL is locked then the frequency is locked to the reference.

Can you confirm you saved the .tcs before performing a read all registers? Since the .tcs and all registers show different register data..

    Regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,

    IN0  Freq. 74175824.175824Hz   <- 74.25/1.001
    CH45,6,7 Freq.148351648.351648Hz
With this setting, the oscilloscope waveform also stopped flowing.
I change the frequency of IN0 and check.

  • Hello Amin-san,

With this setting, It was confirmed that it locks at about ±100ppm.

    Thank you for your support.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hi Kazuhiro-san,

So it locks and problem is resolved? I'm taking oscilloscope stops flowing as meaning the phase doesn't move anymore. I will close this thread.

With regards to the PPM, that's dependent on the PPM valid / invalid settings. This is Main Start Tab underneath the Reference monitors (underneath where the runscript button is). Validation timer should be enabled. Frequency detect threshold is what determines the range of ppm error on reference that it will remain valid and DPLL will lock/track.

    Regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,

This model is OK, but the problem of another model has not been solved.

    IN3: 148351648.351648MHz OUT4: 148351648.351648MHz
    I want to get OUT4 with IN3 phase-locked

OUT4, which is phase-locked to IN3, is not locked. The flow of the oscilloscope has not stopped.

    I will set here.

    Thanks and regards,

    Kazuhiro Nishimura (Panasonic)

  • Hi Kazuhiro-san,

Email communication mentioned issue is resolved? Was that only covering initial issue and this is now second issue?

Again, best way to understand what's happening is to review status feedback on the status tab:

    • Is REF3 valid?
    • Is DPLL2 selecting REF3?
    • Is DPLL2 locked?

Also, from your original config you will have to change selection in step 2, to make sure DPLL2 can select IN3:

And press the runscript button again. This will recalculate DPLL and reference settings.

With regards to PPM what you have highlighted is correct, that is the setting for how much DPLL tracks with reference and at what point does it no longer track and switch to holdover mode (which you keep frequency lock, long term lock determined by XO stability or TCXO stability in 3 loop mode).

    Regards,

    Amin

  • Hello Amin-san,
