LMX2594: Channel Divider and VCO frequency

Part Number: LMX2594

Hi,

I have a question for the channel divider and VCO frequency. From table 8 of the datasheet, I see that a /8 divider can be used if VCO freq. < 11.5GHz. What if this rule is violated ?

In fact, I would like to get 1450MHz at the output, my options are:

- from VCO2=8700MHz and choose channel divider=6, frantional mode --> I got 6.7dBm @Pout

- from VCO4=11600MHz and choose channel divider=8 (rule is violated) --> But I can get a higher output power 7.9dBm (what I need actually)

My question is: Is it OK to keep choosing CHDIV=8 and using VCO4 in this case? If not, what will be the consequences?

Thanks,

XL

  • Hi XL,
    You're only 100MHz off from the maximum VCO frequency allowed for a channel divider of 8 but TI can no longer guarantee performance from DS is you go outside recommended operating levels.
    It is possible you will have no issues but as mentioned, TI cannot assure you anything.

    Regards,
