AFE4403: Is AFE4403/4490 too old?

Hey, I'm in need of a pulse oximeter in my device, I wanted to ask that "is AFE4403/4490 too old now for this stuff", I found some alternates like (AFE4405, AFE44I30), but documentation from TI is still under NDA.

Please help me choose an AFE for a pulse oximeter with clinical-grade accuracy.

Hello Arpit,

The selection of the AFE would depend on your SpO2 application whether it is going to be a finger tip or wrist based.

AFE4400, AFE4490, AFE4403 are better suited for finger-tip pulse oximetry solutions.

The later generation AFEs like AFE44S30, AFE44I30, AFE4950 etc have several features like programmable-gain TIA, Offset Cancellation DACs and the Noise reduction filter that enable accurate, low-power SpO2 monitoring.

Hi Praveen, thanks for answering.
I've just got a few doubts, it'll be great if you can clear some of them.

i). I wanted to build pulse-ox for kids (preferred measurement sites are ankle/foot), therefore searching for transmittance type sensors (LED and PD are on the opposite sides), there which AFE will be suitable for this purpose?
ii). I've requested documentation of AFE4405, as I think it's still under NDA. So will I get access?

Hello Arpit,

i.) For the transmittance sensor, is it common anode or H-bridge configuration? Depending on the type, it may change what we recommend.
