ADS8664: Daisy chain topology of ADS8664IDBT

Part Number: ADS8664
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8688,

Hi team,
Could you please explain the difference between the following

daisy chain topology which is implemented in ADS8664IDBT and

which we normally implement?.
What are the advantages of doing so?.

  • Hi Shibin,

The first block diagram shows the daisy-chain on ADS8688 family including ADSS8664. This daisy-chain makes it easy to program the registers on all ADCs including input range configuration and sequence selection. Also, selecting channel on each ADC is implemented by sending command to each ADC over SDI, so it's easy to switch channels with this daisy-chain connection. Lastly, the /CS on the ADS8664 is actually CONVST START signal, so it's easy to initiate a data conversion for all ADCs in the daisy-chain and also the signal sampling on one channel of each ADC in the daisy-chain is synchronous.

    Best regards,

    Dale
