ADS1298R: Can I replace the ADS1298R with ADS1298 without changing the board?

Part Number: ADS1298R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

Hi,

ADS1298RIZXGR is used in our products. And the following schematic is used for the respiration.

But now the ADS1298RIZXGR is out of stock.

    I have two questions:

Q1. Is ADS1298RIZXGR still active, will TI produce ADS1298RIZXGR in the future?

Q2. I find that I can still get some ADS1298CZXGT(no respiration).

My question is can I replace the ADS1298RIZXGR with ADS1298CZXGT,without changing the schematic or the board layout?

I can accept not using the respiration data. But I don't want to change anything else in hardware in my products. Is it possible?

     Thank you.

Frank

  • Hi,

    Do you use/have a ADS1298R evaluation kit/board(EVM)?

Do you use the respiration function and connect any signal or trace or wire the the respiration pins in ADS1298R?

Let me reach out to my team to ask for ADS1298RIZXGR inventory/stock and get back to you.

    Thanks

  • Hi Feng,

The ADS1298RIZXGR is still an active part, yes. For supply questions, please reach out to us via email. I just messaged you.

    Kind regards,
    Nick Z.

  • Hi Nick Z.

           Thank you.

           How about Q2?

Can I replace the ADS1298RIZXGR with ADS1298CZXGT,without changing the schematic or the board layout?

I can accept not using the respiration data. But I don't want to change anything else in hardware in my products.

Since I can only some ADS1298CZXGT recently.

          Regards,

    Frank

  • Hi Frank,

Is the chip package 64-Pin NFBGA?

If yes, I suggest do some side by side comparison/check to watch pin out and check if the surrounding/peripheral circuits still go to the right/correct pins using the following -

Especially pay attention to the following -

In the mean time, Would you mind providing a picture of your schematic around the ADS1298RIZXGR chip with the pin names present, so I can help you as a second eye.

Also, I suggest rework two boards to put ADS1298CZXGT to test/check/verify/validate/compare the functionality/performance before final decision.

Another question, do you have a ADS1298/R evaluation kit/board(EVM)?

    Thanks,

  • Hi ChienChun Yang,

           Here is my schematic.

The Resp_MODN and Resp_MODP pins are connected to the R/C net as shown below.

Can I just not change the board, and just replace with ADS1298CZXGT? Although the Resp_MODN and Resp_MODP are not floating.

           Yes, I have a ADS1298R evaluation kit/board.

           Best Regards,

    Frank

  • Hi,

I checked the schematic pinouts with datasheet, it looks ok-

From your schematic above, are the RESP_MODP(4G) and RESP_MODN(4F) pins connect to any peripheral circuits? The datasheet suggest to leave them floating. I may suggest to DNI those.

Again, I suggest rework 1 or 2 PCBAs to go through some tests/verifications/validation if this is for Medical Device graded product development to comply with regulation.

    Thanks

  • Hi ChienChun Yang,

I will DNI the RC network for respiration and validate it on some boards.

         Thank you so much.

    Frank

  • No problem.

For house cleaning, I am closing this ticket/thread. If you may have other question, feel free to open another ticket/thread.

    Thanks
