DAC161S997: is CSB bidirectional? (SPI Write Error Correction)

Part Number: DAC161S997

In the datasheet it is not clear how the CSB signal behaves in case of a communication error.

From the datasheet (SNAS621A), 8.5.1.3.1 SPI Write Error Correction:

If the loopback indicates a communication error has occurred (see
Figure 13), the CSB pin is held low and the previous write command is repeated.

Has CSB to be held low from the microcontroller or does the DAC pull CSB down by itself? In the second case, the microcontroller pin has to be configured as open drain.

Thank you for the support.
