ADS8557: ADC Noise issue

Part Number: ADS8557

Hi Team,

A customer found a failure where all the readings received from the ADC are excessively noisy when it is expected to be a straight line at 0V.

The failure is suspected to have occurred either by a previous power shutdown or a power startup. Once the error had occurred, the problem is repeated despite power reset. The schematic of the IC used in the card is provided below for your reference. The circuitry connecting CH_A0 to CH_C1 is of a similar design to CH_C0 as shown in the schematic below

Can you confirm if the device is defective and should be replaced or is there any other workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Marvin

  • Hi Marvin,

With the detail given, there is no way for us to tell with any certainty that the ADS8557 has been damaged.  Typical procedure would be to do an A-B-A swap and replace the DUT with a new device.  Then put the suspect part on a known good PCB and see if the issue follows the chip.  If the issue follows the chip, it is most likely damaged.  You know the process for FA request, which would be the next steps to take.
