ADS1291: Questions about ADS1291 for Wellness Band Development

Dear Team,

We are currently developing a wellness band and have come across the ADS1291 as an interesting option for our application. We have a few basic questions regarding its capabilities and compatibility.

  1. With the ADS1291 and a single electrode, can we obtain ECG and respiration results directly? We are curious about the device's capabilities in measuring both ECG and respiration using a single electrode setup.

  2. We are looking to measure blood pressure (BP) using the Pulse Transit Time (PTT) method in conjunction with the ADS1291. Could you please suggest a recommended PPG sensor that would be suitable for use alongside the ADS1291 to measure BP accurately? We are particularly interested in PPG sensors that are compatible with the ADS1291 for this purpose.

  3. To assess the functionalities of the ADS1291, is it sufficient to use the ADS1291 evaluation board alone?
  4. In our testing, we aim to examine the ADS1291's performance in ECG, respiration, and blood pressure measurements. Are there any available example programs or code snippets that demonstrate these specific use cases?

    Hi,

    ADS1291 doesn't have/doesn't support respiration.  ADS1292R does.

    What mechanism do you plan/wish to obtain/measure the PTT and BP? ADS129x family do not have PPG function/capability.

    If the product needs to measure ECG+PPG and respiration, customer may consider AFE4960P. Customer will need to develop algorithms for PPG and PPG based BP and PTT.

    AFE4960P has integrated PPG analog front end signal chain and ADC, but we do not suggest any particular PPG sensors as we are not optical experts; we leave PPG sensors selections and designs to customers.

    Not clear what you mean by the 3rd question, but ADS1292 evaluation board/kit(EVM) can be used for ECG signal evaluation with ECG simulator.

    Again, ADS1291 doesn't support respiration, but ADS1292R does. Only GUI to interface/control ADS1292(R) evm is available.

    Thank you for recommending the AFE4960P module. We have reviewed the TIDA-01580 reference design and it appears to be suitable for our needs. Could you please provide clarification regarding the availability of the TIDA-01580 reference board for purchase and testing? Do we have the option to acquire a pre-assembled board, or would we need to manufacture and assemble the components ourselves using the design files?

    Additionally, we would like to inquire whether example codes are available for ECG, SpO2, heart rate, and blood pressure measurements using the AFE4960P module. It would be helpful for our development process to have these resources.
