ADS7844: Absolute Maximum Input Voltage / Maximum Input Current

Part Number: ADS7844

The ADS7844 datasheet specifies absolute maximum input voltage for analog inputs (multiplexer inputs and reference input) is "-0.3V to +Vcc + 0.3V".  Do ADS7844 analog inputs have ESD protection diodes?  If so, can absolute maximum input voltage safely be exceeded provided that input current is limited, and what would be a safe current limit?

  • Hi Gerald,

Welcome to our e2e forum!  The ABS MAX limits for the ADS7844 are listed on page 4.  Limiting the current into the analog inputs to 1mA will help to protect the device from failure, but if you will have a continuous over voltage situation, please consider adding external protection diodes on the analog inputs.
