ADS1299: Electrode contact status

Part Number: ADS1299
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are using ADS1299 for ECG acquisition.

We want to tell whether all electrodes are connected or individual electrode is connected at any particular instance. There is lead off detection available for ECGP and ECGN skin to electrode contact status detection.

Is there any such parameter available for RLD electrode?

Is it possible to individually know the contact status of electrode?

  • Hello Vedashree,

    Apologies for missing this post.

Each individual electrode can be monitored for connection status using the DC lead-off detection feature. The electrode connection status can be read directly from the LOFF_STATx bits in the STATUS word, which precedes the conversion data.

In addition, you may also use AC lead-off detection to monitor the change in the impedance of the electrode connection. Note: this method is not able to distinguish between INxP and INxN inputs; rather, it monitors the differential lead connection. The contact quality is monitored in software by analyzing the magnitude of the signal which occurs at the lead-off excitation frequency.

We have a some application notes and articles on the ADS1298 product folder which may also be helpful as they also apply to ADS1299 lead-off detection:
