Hi ,
I am try to make universal input device like ( 4-20 input ,Thermocouple K type ,J type ,RTD 2-wire , RTD 3-wire ,RTD-4 wire )
can any one suggest me circuit diagram for universal input .using ADS1220 or any other way .

Hi Ankush,
The circuit for measuring a thermocouple could look something like this:
The thermocouple front end circuit would consist of an RC lowpass anti-aliasing filter, and Pull-up and pull-down resistors for biasing.
You can read more about the details of thermocouple measurements from the following app note: A Basic Guide to Thermocouple Measurements (Rev. A) (ti.com)
The following are examples of 2, 3, and 4 wire RTD configurations
You can read more about RTD measurements in the following app note: A Basic Guide to RTD Measurements (Rev. A) (ti.com)
As you can see, the circuit implementations would be a little different depending on the type of measurement you want to make.
You can take a look at our ADS1220 EVM's schematic, which implements different front-end configurations for different types of measurements onto a single board, and it can serve as a starting reference frame for your design.

The schematic for the EVM can be found at the end of its user's guide: ADS1x20EVM User's Guide (ti.com)

Hi Angel ,
Thanks for you reply ,
I will refer this schematic .
I have one question if I try without ADS1220 IC and directly connect to MCU whose ADC resolution 12bit or 16bit is it going to work ?
or should I have to add more circuit ? do you have any circuit diagram for that let me know .

Hi Ankush,
You can take voltage analog to digital readings with an MCU ADC, but it is unlikely that you would be able to take ratiometric measurements (Refer to RTD app note for information on this concept). Our ADCs incorporate integrated IDACs and external reference inputs which facilitate these types of measurements.
For information related to MCUs, please post your question to the MCU forum.

Angel
