Hi people:

When i made my prototype board i used the data converter ADS1213P (24 pins DIP Version) and the Vbias was zero, before enabling it via internal register. However, now, in the final version, im using the ADS1213E (28 pins SOIC Version) and now the Vbias is 3.3V at power up (without enabling the register), is this normal? is this a feature of this version?

I want to be sure about that, because i dont want to run into strange issues when the final prototype is running. (And i havent found information about this specific case)

Are there any other major differences between the parts?´

Hi JACR,

The ADS1213 silicon should be the same in both the E and P packages. The V_BIAS should be disabled at power up (it defaults to OFF).

Hi Tom, thank you very much for your fast answer. However, that is exactly my point, i supposed there should be no changes between one part or the other, but now that i have my final card, i found that voltage.

Im finding that on power up, the Vbias is 3.3V default in the 28soic ADS1213, so, my question would be... is it possible that the chip is damaged then? (However, the weird thing would be that it is showing the exact voltage it should be when enabled)

JACR,

There are no differences in the silicon on these parts, it is possible the part is damaged somehow. A couple of things to consider are, can you communicate to the part? Can you read the registers and verify the state of Vbias? Does the part output data?

Hi Tom and Bob

The part is working, but its not working properly. The Vbias is 3.3V even when on power up with no enable. However, i can communicate with the part and im getting some kind of results... for example:

When i generate 1V with the DAC8871, the part is reading 1.21V, so my guess is that the part is damaged somehow, ill guess i will desolder it today and sold another ADS1213E.

Hi Tom, ty very much for your concern.

Yes, i changed the part and the 2nd one had the normal Vbias value (0), and the now the part is working and operative.

Im making measurements in the order of microvolts and hundreds of picoamps.
