Reference design ADC08DL500

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC08DL500, ADC08D1520, ADC08D1520RB

Hi all,

I am setting up a new design using the ADC08DL500 converter and therefore I am looking for a reference design to start with. I actually  found design data called "BIG GIG REFRENCE BOARD REV 2.0A" from 2005 and I am wondering whether there is a more recent design available.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and best regards,

Gerald

    Hi Gerald,

Our newest reference design with an 8-bit ADC is for the ADC08D1520RB.  You can find the complete Design Package including schematics, layout, BOM, FPGA code, and source documents under 'More Literature' on the ADC08D1520 web page:

    http://www.ti.com/product/adc08d1520

My best recommendation is to start with this design and make the few adjustments for the ADC08DL500 part such as a clock at 500MHz; a different package, and tidying up pin-out details.

The BigGig 2.0 board may also be used, but it is the older design and may use obselete parts as well as has less features. I have attached the schematics, so that you can see if you are interested in using this board.  Let me know if you prefer it, and I will send the design package as well.  It really depends on what you would like to do with the design.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie

  • Hi Marjorie,

many thanks for your help ... I will carefully check the attached schematic.

Background for my question is that we want to setup a high speed data acquisition system for monitoring fast changing plasma properties during fusion experiments. I am currently in the design phase of an evaluation system in order to gain first experience.

I assume new questions will pop up and and I am glad if I could bring them to you.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Gerald

  • Hi Gerald,

Thanks for the additional info regarding your application.  If you have further questions as you progress in your design, do not hesitate to ask.

Just to clarify, the attached schematic is for the second choice recommended solution.  The first choice is by using the ADC08D1520RB with Design Package available as I mentioned before.

    Kind regards,

    Marjorie
