ADS1293EVM: Problems with demo ADS1293EVM installing MSP430 driver

Part Number: ADS1293EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1293

When I try installing the MSP430 driver I am having difficulies

I go to the device manager:

Go to other devices > MSP430-base HID device

Then : Update|Driver Software

and: browse my computer, then enter C:\Pogram Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS1293\hardware\driver\x86

Click next

Then I get the following message:

Windows was unable to install your MSP430-based HID Device

Windows could not find driver for your device

Why is this does not work ?

Thanks,

Andre

  • Hello Andre,

Thanks for your post and sorry this didn't work for you right away.

I'm not sure if you are pointing to the correct driver folder. Could you try searching "up" one directory and include all subfolders?

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS1293\hardware\driver"

After successful installation, the EVM should appear as "TI, MSP430" under NSC_USB_WV5 in your Device Manager.

If this still does not work, can you tell us which operating system you are using on your PC?

    Best Regards,

  • Hi, I did "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\ADS1293\hardware\driver"  with include all subfolders and I have this error:

"Windows encountered a problem when installing the driver software for your device"

"The hash for the file is not present in the specified catalog file"

    I am using windows 10

    Thanks,

    Andre

  •  Hi Andre,

I searched the error message and found that it is most likely related to Windows 10 Driver Signature Enforcement. Basically - the driver has not been signed in a way that is accepted by Windows 10. If you have access to a Windows 7 machine, I would suggest trying that first to confirm that is the only issue.

To install the driver on a Windows 10 machine, you will have to disable Driver Signature Enforcement. Several blogs indicate that this is a known workaround, but it comes at the risk of installing drivers which are potentially malicious to your PC. Most PCs seem to re-enable Driver Signature Enforcement automatically upon restart. However, TI cannot assume any liability if you choose to give this a try.

This device originally came from another group in TI, so I do not believe it will be possible to have the driver appropriately signed for Windows 10. If I can find someone from MSP430 to help with this, I will come back to this post and let you know.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi, I was finally able to test it on a machine running windows 7 and it worked. Not that many PC lest running windows 7 in our company. We move all of them to windows 10 for improve security reason.  I will recommend you move it to Windows 10. (at least update the Evaluation user manual ti indicate a warning with Windows 10)

I used some other TI evaluation boards and all 3 models with the same MSP processor worked on Windows 10 without any problem.

    Thanks,

    Andre
