ADS1259: Talking to the EVM with PC?

Part Number: ADS1259
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , ADS1262, TIPD188

Hi team,

My customer has designed in the ADS1259 to their system, and just ordered their first protoboards. As a part of the initial evaluation, they would like to be able to talk to this chip from a PC with USB / SPI interface in order to configure it and get some readings so that we prove out the hardware. This is necessary since their controller board is not ready yet.

The TI ADS1259EVM-PDK does not seem to provide such a capability. However, they came across a potential solution from National Instruments http://www.ni.com/tutorial/4692/en/. We would like to know if there is another way option that we should consider, or if you think this NI product is a good bet.

Thanks,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

That is correct, the ADS1259EVM-PDK does not easily support testing of custom software on its own.

While I haven't used that particular NI device, I have recommended it before and is likely a good option that won't require too much effort to setup since NI usually provides software libraries to get you started.

The only other recommendation I would have, would be to use another microcontroller breakout board with a SPI, such as one of the MSP430 launchpads. However, I would probably only go this route if there was a board that I was already familiar with and had some software for...If they are open to trying out the MSP-EXP430F5529 LaunchPad, then there is some ADS1262 example code included in TIPD188 (www.ti.com/.../tidcan1) which could provide a starting point.

    Best regards,
    Chris
