ADS1112 vs ADS1115

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1112, ADS1115

I've designed a project that uses the ADS1112 (using 3 channels in single ended mode).

Now there is the ADS1115 that can do the same and is a lot cheaper.

I know I'll have to change my layout and firmware. But I'm just not sure if the performance of both parts is equivalent, or if the ADS1112 costs more because it has better specifications.

Looking at the datasheets it seems the other way, but I'm not sure.

Thanks, Mauricio

  • Hi Mauricio,

The 1112 data rate as max 240SPS, and the 1115 is 860SPS. As I don't know what the specs/goal of your project are. I would suggest trying to lower the data rate of your pre-existing project that uses the 1112 to 250SPS.The 1115 current consumption is 150 uA while the 1112 is 240 uA. I don't know if power consumption is an issue in your project, but that might be something you want to consider or do a cost/benefit analysis on.

*edit, I mistakenly switched 1112 and 1115, They are corrected above

  • Hi, Matt.

I'm using today the ADS1112 in single conversion mode at 1SPS so, not a problem. Neither is the power consumption. I was more worried about linearity, drift, offset and consistency.

    Thanks, Mauricio
  • Hi Mauricio,

If that is the case, you might want to try the 1115. It is cheaper, as you mentioned. It also has a much smaller integral nonlinearity
    1115: 6.25 e-5 V
    1112: 0.04098 V

and the offset error is much smaller on the 1115, on page 9 there is a graph of of the Offset Error for different FSR and VDD.
