ADC12DJ3200EVM: ADCxxDJxx00 GUI not connecting to device

Part Number: ADC12DJ3200EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12DJ3200

I am unable to connect to this device using ADxxDJxx00 GUI. Error FT_DEVICE_NOT_FOUND. I have followed the troubleshooting guide as per SLAU701a and still have this issue. The device had worked previously and shows no sign of HW damage. I am able to see the device using the FT_PROG application, and have the correct FTDI device drivers installed. I am unsure as to what the issue is but can confirm it is not HW related, as I can consistently reproduce it on two ADC12DJ3200EVM platforms. Please advise. -Dan

  • Hi Daniel

Is this a different computer than the one that worked successfully before with these boards? Has anything in the setup changed?

Did you download the EVM GUI from this location? http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac745  The file should be "slac745a.zip"

When you have the EVM connected and identified in FT_PROG, what is the text string Product Description identifier for the board? The production board will have "ADC12DJ3200" as the Product Description. Earlier pre-production boards used "ADC12DJxx00" and had a different GUI version which supported them.

  • Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. I was able to get the ADC12DJ3200EVM to connect to the GUI, but now I am seeing an error when I try to Program JMODE. Here is a snapshot of the error:

I've tried with multiple USB cables and all USB ports on my machine to make sure that isn't causing the problem. I believe it may be a problem with certain FTDI drivers not functioning correctly, any advice?

    Thanks,

    Dan

  • Hi Dan

I typically see that error message when the power supply for the ADC12DJ3200EVM hits current limit while the configuration files are being written. The initial current draw is low (<1A), but after configuration the static draw is around 1.5A to 2A.

Make sure the 5V power supply has a current capability of at least 2.5A, 3A is preferred.

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Jim,

This fixed my problem. Strange though, the board worked for over 6 months on that power supply before stopping with the latest GUI update. Thank you so much for your help!
