Simulators removed in CCSv6

Guru**** 420520 points

CCSv6 does not officially support simulators. See the below link for more details:

Thanks

  • This is quite an unfortunate development.

  • I agree. Unfortunate.

I partially agree the word than the problem I fully agree.

Simulator are the bench to do some analysis and to do batch of running all the cases for software. The quality of final version decrease without this tool cannot be substituted by a simple low cost hardware.

The project I am developing is fully software simulated and go to silicon a piece at a time to fully qualify by automated procedure, removing simulator this is no more possible...

Not unfortunate but tragedy for quality software developer.

Ki no chance to get support of simulator?

For keystone, it is still a possibility. You can make a request in the keystone forums.

For other simulators, it is unlikely that this trend will be reversed. However I do encourage people who feel strongly about this to express those feeling in the device forums so the device groups can hear your feelings. The tools (CCS) team did not have the final say in regards to dropping simulation support.

    Thanks

  • This is truly unfortunate .

Means other than C66X platform ,no other DSP family(example C674x) can work on simulator in CCSv6 ??

But this is truly unfortunate as Simulator is really necessary to work fast and check the  performance and some time bug fixing too .

It is very tedious job to run with hardware bu emulator .

  • In the microcontroller world, I very rarely need to use a Simulator. When do others need to use it?

The best option would be for TI to add the simulator as an optional add-on for additional cost. Makes both parties happy.

  • Hi,

WIll the simulators be available on 5.0 and 5.3 ?

    Thanks,

    Mithila

  • Yes, the simulators are still available with CCSv5.

  • Is it possible to use simulator configuration files of v5 in v6

Some people have tried this and were able to get it to work. However, do this at your own risk. That environment is not supported and if you run into issues, we will not be able to provide much help.

  • Hi,

    Indeed simulators are very useful.

    I am using F28335.

If CCSv6 does not provide such feature I would have to stay on CCSv5.

What is forecasted on this subject since 2014 ?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Mathieu

  • Simulators are a key feature of Code Composer Studio

Please re-introduce simulations in future versions.

TI is stopping support for RTDX and Simulators at the same time. How can we easily transfer data files from a host PC to a simulated or real target without simulator or RTDX ?

I would like to invite Texas Instruments to ask for the developer community position before taking this type of decision in the future.

  • There has been no change in plans regarding simulators. If simulation is of strong interest, please make your feelings known in the forums that support your device (ex. C2000 device forum). As mentioned earlier, it is the device teams that make the decision regarding simulation support, NOT the tools (CCS) team. It is they who need to hear requests (and frustrations) directly from the customers.

    Thanks

  • In order to use simulators on CCS 6.x you have to copy the following from CCSv5.5 to CCSv6.0 directory:

    1. ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\simulation

    2. ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\common\targetdb\configurations\tisim_f283x.xml

    3. ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\common\targetdb\connections\tisim_connection.xml

    4. ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\common\targetdb\drivers\tisim*

I think the simulators are one of the main reason why I'm using TI DSPs, removing them from the official release is quite disappointing

  • Thanks for this information.

For next CCS version releases it would be good to have by default such simulators.. even if unfortunately new MCU will not be provided with a simulator.

  • Hello,

There are no plans to have simulators with future versions of CCS. As mentioned before, this is a decision not made by the tools (CCS) team. If simulators are of great concern, it is best to make your requests heard in the device forums.

    Thanks
