DLPC4422: How to make DLPC4422EVM support 4-way actuator

Part Number: DLPC4422
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP660TE, , DLP780TE, DLPC4420, DLPC7540, DLP660TEEVM, DLP470TEEVM, DLP471TEEVM, DLPC7540EVM, DLP650TEEVM, DLP470TE

Hi TI's friends

I am a systems enginee from Wintech inc

How to make DLPC4422EVM support 4-way actuator

We have developed DLPC4422+DLP660TE + 2-way actuator  4K UHD device

As we all know DLPC4422EVM hardware only supports 2-way actuator not 4-way

and only supports DAC driver circuit not PWM

Need :

DLP780TE Hardware Design has beed shared with me from TI  and miniAik has shared one .78 actuator with me

We plan to develop DLPC4422/DLPC4420 + DLP780TE + 4-way 4K UHD device for Display and 3D printing application

The key question is how i can modify DLPC4422EVM to support 4-way actuator

DLPC4420+ DLP780TE composer project supports 4-way

Which mode will be used, PWM mode used by DLPC7540  or DAC mode used by DLPC4422

and How can i modify actuator driver circuit

and what can i refer to

Can you give me some suggestions

Thank  you for any help

Best Regards

Jia

  • Hi Jia,

Glad to see Wintech developing with the new DLP780TE. The team is looking at the best way to share the 4-way info. I will follow up with them tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Matt

  • Hi Matt

    Glad to See You Again

Discuss the control  mode of  XPR and number of channels

    A. DAC mode or PWM mode

    B. 2-Way or 4-Way

    Who is using  DAC mode

    A. DLPC4422EVM + DLP660TEEVM is using DAC mode and 2-Way

    B. DLPC4422EVM + DLP470TEEVM is using DAC mode and 4-Way (but DLPC4422EVM has no 4-way driver)

    C. DLPC6421 + DLP470TP is using DAC mode and 4-way

    Who is using PWM mode

    A. DLPC7540EVM + DLP471TEEVM/DLP650TEEVM are using PWM mode and 4-Way

Does Actuator support DAC mode or PWM mode or both

    A. miniAik .47/ .48/ .65/ .78 actuators all support DAC mode and PWM mode , params are saved in the actuator MCU

    B. Optotune both XPR-20 and XPR-33 support DAC mode and PWM mode

So I want to know which  control mode will be used in the DLPC4420/DLPC4422 + DLP780TE solution

    and

I want to modify DLPC4422EVM or our DLPC4422 main board to add 4-way driver

    and

must make sure composer project firmware can be run on the hardware platform

    Thank you for any help

    Best Regards

    Jia

  • Hello Jia,

Please find the most recent Firmware package - the FPGA firmware will need to be updated to 4-way XPR. The user's guide has additional instructions if needed.

    Best,

    Aaron B

  • Hi Aaron and Matt

I know that Software supports 4-way XPR . Both FPGA and DLPC4420/DLPC4422 support 4-Way XPR

But DLPC4422EVM Hardware supports only 2-way not 4-way

    First: DLPC4422EVM  XPR SH

    A . ADC mode

    B . only one channel

    C . support for DLP660TE

    D . We have designed DLP660TE  device

    https://www.ti.com/tool/WDST-3P-PRO6600

    Second: DLPC4422 Software

A . Hardware = DLPC4422EVM + DLP660TE, "is 2XPR" is clicked. and the 2-way current driver signal is output from J43 (it is mode we are using in our DLP660TE device)

    B . Hardware = DLPC4422EVM + DLP470TE, "is 2XPR" is not clicked. because it is using 4-way XPR

My qestion is where the 4-way XPR driver signals output, J42 yes or no

    and

4-way driver is using 2 channel DAC mode or 2 channel PWM mode

How can I connect miniAik or Optotune Actuator to DLPC4422EVM

Or I need to design a New Actuator driver board

    ultimate purpose:

Connect miniAik and Optotune Actuators to DLPC4422/DLPC4420EVM like DLPC7540EVM on which The 4-way PWM mode  driver circuit is integrated

    Or

How can I  make DLPC4422EVM+DLP470TE + miniAik 4-way actuator work OK

I think that there are the same need to the DLPC4420+DLP 780TE + 4-way

    Guess:

    A . 4-way driver signals output from J42

B . have to design PWM or DAC actuator driver circuit additionally

C . Both DLPC4420+DLP780TE and DLPC4422+DLP470TE will use the same Actuator driver circuit

I need to verify the functionality of DLP780TE as soon as possible on the DLPC4422 hardware platform this we have mass produced

    Thank you for any help

    Best Regards

    Jia

  • Hello Jia,

It sounds like you might have a 1st Gen of DLPC4422 and DLP660TE, if this is the case you will need a 2nd Gen of DLPC4422.- purchasable on ti.com.

    1. Our 2-way and 4-way designs are too different that we do not have updates documented.

    2. Did the miniAik and Optotune Actuators come with driver boards or do you need a comparison to design your own driver board?

    Best,

    Aaron B

  • Hi Aaron

I am a systems engineer from Wintech inc

Mainly responsible for the products of the ECD department

    https://www.ti.com/tool/WDST-3P-PRO6600

    We released PRO6600 product at 2019 which referring to TI's DLPC4422 + DLP660TE solution

We designed DLPC4422 hardware referring to DLPC4422EVM  at 2017

May it is 1st Gen of DLPC4422

Now the hardware design downloaded from TI is 1st Gen not the latest 2nd

    https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPLCRDC4422EVM

    1. Our 2-way and 4-way designs are too different that we do not have updates documented.

A: Can you share the 2nd Gen of DLPC4422 docs with me, especially the hardware design

    2. Did the miniAik and Optotune Actuators come with driver boards or do you need a comparison to design your own driver board?

A: we have no any Actuator driver boards except DLPC4422EVM and actuators

B: we really need an actuator driver board to connect DLCP4422EVM to actuator

C: Can you share me the Actuator driver board (hardware design is OK) which can be connected to DLPC4422EVM

    Thank you

    Best Regards

    Jia

  • Hi Aaron

Now We use 2-way Actuator in the PRO6600 device (TI gave the suggestion at 2017)

    DLP660TE must use 2-way actuator

so DLPC4422EVM only integrates 2-way driver

But both DLP470TE and DLP780TE need 4-way actuator and DLPC4422EVM have no 4-way actuator driver

How can miniAik 4-way actuator be connected to DLPC4422EVM (or our DLPC4422 main board)

    mayby a actuator is needed

    Please give me some informations

    Thank you

    Best Regards

    Jia

  • Hello Jia,

I understand, the board does need the 4-way actuator connection.

I will reach out to you for this information.

    Best,

    Aaron B

  • Hi Aaron

I know that the signals of 4-way Actuator is output from XPR Alter FPGA

The connector of the J54 , J55 and J56 are the 4-way Actuator interface

    I read AllinOne source V09.00.00 of DLPC442X

I find Actuator configs are sent to FPGA through IIC

    'Image Deleted'

And I know that the standalone board is connected to between DLPC4422EVM and Actuator

Can you share me the hardware design of actuator standalone board

Is correct to my guess ?

    Thank you for you help

    Best Regards
