DLP4710LC: Can we solder DLP4710LC on PCB

Part Number: DLP4710LC

Hi,

In my current design i am using DMD IC through a connector

can i solder it on PCB ? can DMD chips be passed in to reflow machines for soldering ?

If so kindly share the soldering profile of the DMD IC DLP4710LC

Thanks

  • Hello Shyam,

Welcome back to the E2E forum. Thank you for your continued business!

The DMD should not be soldered directly to a PCB. While not recommended, the flex cable connector can be soldered onto the PCB. The DMD can then be mounted onto the flex cable connector with the cable on the reverse side.

  • can you please explain why dmd cannot be soldered on PCB  ?

also i did not understand your suggested idea of flex connector, can you represent it in a picture format or provide some reference design of what you are recommending.

  • Hello Shyam,

The DMD cannot be soldered onto a PCB because the DMD cannot withstand the temperatures used while soldering. The DMD has to be mounted mechanically via the interposer.

We do not have any examples of the flex cable connector mount that I described as that is not how we set up our systems. However, here is a block diagram design that can be found on TI.com that details how we create the DMD, flex cable, and PCB connection. The DMD in this diagram is within the optical engine.

    Best,
