DLP4500: Not booting up

Part Number: DLP4500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPC350

While the device was working normally, the light driver suddenly turned off. Now, whenever I connect the power, the fan starts, and the green LED next to the flex cable turns on and stays on, but nothing else happens. No logo projection and the device is not detected via the GUI (it is detected by a PC as a display if I connect the mini HDMI cable, but nothing is displayed).

I'd be thankful for any help figuring out what went wrong!

  • Hello Asaph,

Welcome to the E2E forum. Thank you for your business!

Can you reflash the default firmware using the most recent GUI? The GUI can be found here: https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPLCR4500EVM. The firmware can be found here: https://www.ti.com/tool/DLPR350

  • Hi Maxine,

    Thanks for the info,

Unfortunately, the device is not being recognised by the GUI, and when I try to flash a firmware I get a notification that it can't switch to programming mode.

I've ordered the components for JTAG flash programming, but I wonder what could have corrupted the firmware to begin with (it was just sitting there, operating normally, and then went blank).

    Best,

    Asaph

  • Hello Asaph,

It is possible that the flash image did not flash correctly. If the device is erased completely and not reprogrammed, then connecting via GUI will not work as the DLPC350 controller will fail to boot. Ensure that you program via JTAG once you have fully erased; JTAG programming is shown below. Once programmed, you should be able to connect via GUI.

If JTAG programming does not work, then it is possible that you have run into a hardware issue, such as a short.

    Best,

    Maxine
