DLPC3478: In firmware v9.0.1 RGB patterns and lower illumination time not working

Part Number: DLPC3478
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLPA3000,

Hi ti experts,

I have a custom DLPC3478 board with DMD3010 and DLPA3000. I have STM32 on our DLPC board to upload DLP firmware and control the DLPC3478 through I2C.

I discovered that, in Internal pattern mode, with mono or rgb color, if we set pre and post exposure times to 15 ms and exposure time to anything lower than 11 ms, projector is not projecting in firmware version v9.0.1. However, if we switch into firmware version v8.0.1, it is working with the same exposure times (for example 15 for pre exp, 10 for exp, 15 for post exp).

Also in version v8.0.1, we can project white patterns in internal pattern mode by setting byte 4 illumination select) to decimal 7 in  Write Pattern Order Table Entry. However, in version v9.0.1, we can't project white patterns. It projects blue if we set white color.

Can you help us with this issue?
Best Regards,
John
  • Hello John,

Could you send copies of your patterns and screenshots of your internal pattern configuration?

As for the second issue you noticed, we have been able to reproduce this issue and are actively working on a maintenance release which addresses it. If v8.0.1 works better in your application we suggest you use that until our next maintenance release is out.

  • Hello Maximus,

The first problem was solved without doing anything except uploading firmware 9.0.1 and pattern file again. It is projecting patterns now with lower exposure time than 11ms.

I thought that I could use version 8.0.1 but I have issues with patterns again.

The first one is, I have 4 pattern sets. first set: 7x1-bit patterns second set: 6 x 8-bit patterns and third set: 2x 1-bit patterns and the fourth set: 1x1-bit pattern. Then at runtime I change the pattern order table to project the third set, first set then second set, respectively. I observed that the first set in the pattern set was correctly projected but it projects the first set’s first pattern 7 times instead of projecting the first set’s pattern consecutively. I realized that by combining the first and third set into one set it "solves” this issue.

Second problem is I have 2 pattern order tables to upload DLPC at runtime.

    1. has following configuration:
    2. has following configuration:

If I upload the second order table after uploading the first order table,it projects the second set first pattern 9 times which is not expected. I realized that if I call start projecting again it projects correctly.

Or another workaround is after uploading the first order table if I set operating mode other than internal pattern and then set internal pattern again and then upload the second order table it projects normally again.

If I get the firmware previous than v9.0.1 but other than v8.0.1, I think I can use it or test it if this problem is solved in that firmware. I did not observe this problem in firmware v9.0.1 but it is not projecting white as we discuseed.

And can you guess the maintenance release date of firmware v9.0.1?

    Best, John.

  • Hi John,

Can you show screenshots of your configuration for problem 1? You only see this in version 8.0.1 and not v9.0.1 correct?

As for issue 2, is there a reason you cannot upload the pattern tables once with each pattern set? Also what mode are you in startup? We recommend stopping light control functions when uploading new pattern configurations, so your second workaround seems to be better practice.

I cannot guess the release date for our maintenance release, but we are working to get it out as soon as possible.

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Hi Maximus,

For problem 1, I had this patterns set:

    And the Order Table:

    I change this set to:

    And the Order Table:

to solve the problem. And the problem does not exist in v9.0.1.

For issue 2, i have to use 2 different tables because i want to change led current before projecting patterns. I started with internal pattern mode.

Also is there a newer version of firmware v8.0.1 other than v9.0.1?

Can you notifiy me when new firmware released?

    Best,
    John.

  • Hi John,

For problem 1 could you change the patterns set entry index for each set to 1? There are some bugs with this that we are also fixing in this next release. I'm not sure it it related to what you are seeing but it potentially could.

For problem 2, are you able to try starting in a black screen then switching to internal pattern mode?

Yes, I can let you know when the next release is out. There is no fw version before 9.0.1 publicly available.

    Best,

    Maximus

  • Hi John,

Do you still need help with this issue? Feel free to respond with more information if you'd like. Otherwise I will close this ticket out for now.

    Best,

    Maximus
