DLP660TE: DMD shows dark pixels

Part Number: DLP660TE

Hi All,

Our customer tell us they see the dark pixels from DMD by image sensor, the dark pixels just only in a flash then disappear and maybe show again at other micromirrors. Our customer want to know :

1. What is the cause of dark pixels?

2. Will DMD be damaged quickly when the dark pixels appear?

3. Could the DMD continue be used if the DMD has dark pixels?

Thank you.

  • Hello Zeno,

Thank you for reaching out to us through E2E!

Could you please describe when this is seen? Sorry, I'm not understanding what is meant by "just only in a flash" means.

Are these persistent - seen over an extended amount of time? Or is this just a snapshot?

    Best,

    Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,

    Thank you for your response.

this is seen by our customer calibrates the light engine using white image from solid field , they can see some pixels become dark suddenly and back to normal soon like a snapshot.

Then they continue check the DMD and the dark pixels show again in diiferent position and back to normal again.

Do you need any other imformation?

    Thank you again.

    BR,

    Zeno

  • Hello Zeno,

I've been checking with my team and we've had an extended weekend, thank you for your patience!

    1. What is the cause of dark pixels?

This seems to be a timing question, there might be a slight mismatch.

    2. Will DMD be damaged quickly when the dark pixels appear?

Because the pixels are not sticking dark, this should be fixed in software.

    3. Could the DMD continue be used if the DMD has dark pixels?

It seems since the mirrors are still moving there shouldn't be anything mechanically wrong with the device, again software should be able to fix this.
