DLP3021-Q1: Differences with DLP3020-Q1

Part Number: DLP3021-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP3020-Q1, DLPC120-Q1, DLP3030-Q1

Hello,

The two 0.3 inch automotive DLPs DLP3021-Q1 and DLP3020-Q1 have very similar specifications with both sharing the same package and resolution.

While one product is recommended for interior display and the other for exterior display, what is the actual technical difference between these DLP-s?

I see that the recommended controllers differ -- DLPC120-Q1 is referenced with DLP3020-Q1 and an FPGA with DLP3021-Q1.

Does it mean that these controllers are incompatible between these DLP models?

Thanks,

Andreas

  • Hello Andreas,

Welcome to the E2E forums and we hope to assist you with your questions.

You are correct that the DLP3021-Q1 and DLP3020-Q1 are identical except for naming convention.

We use different numbering to distinguish for different applications. The DLP3021-Q1 is used for Dynamic Ground Projection (DGP) with the use of an FPGA. The DLP3020-Q1 is used for Compact Augmented Reality Heads Up Display (AR HUD) applications in automotive vehicles with the use of the DLPC120 controller. The FPGA and DLPC120 controller are not swappable, they are designed for each application respectively. For example the FPGA will not work for AR HUD applications and does not have the features or hardware in the reference design needed.

Some customers have taken our DLP3020-Q1 and DLPC120 chipset meant for AR HUD and with some hardware and software modifications, can use the reference design for DGP applications.

Overall the design and use case is very different between the two applications.

AR HUD reference design. (Note this uses older DLP3030-Q1 part)
